This week the Merlin team had the pleasure of welcoming Lori Hughes, Project Manager for Perth & Kinross Foodbank, to deliver an inspiring ‘Lunch and Learn’ talk. Lori shared the incredible work the foodbank does across the area, and why support of the foodbank is so desperately needed right now as we navigate through difficult economic times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lori passionately demonstrated that the foodbank is far more than simply a place to collect and distribute food parcels. Many people walk through the door seeking help, safety, or someone just to offer a friendly ear. For individuals and families facing hardship, whether through job loss, low income, addiction, or mental health struggles, the foodbank offers a warm, welcoming space where people feel heard and are supported.<\/p>\n

Lori also outlined how the foodbank system works. Care professionals identify people requiring support and register them with their local foodbank, where they receive care packs to support their need: single person, couples or family. Food which is donated by supermarkets, schools, churches, businesses, and individuals, is carefully sorted and packed by a team of volunteers. Cash donations are also highly welcomed by the foodbank, which allow Lori and the volunteers to order vital stock for times when donations may be slower.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Some members of the team were very moved by the foodbank appeal and are planning to use their Merlin volunteer day to help with the collection appeal across Tesco stores at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
