Merlin’s ‘Hairy Haggis’ Charity Marathon
Merlin proudly participated in the ‘Hairy Haggis’ Charity Marathon Team Relay in Edinburgh. The culture committee started planning last year and fielded two relay teams, each comprising of four runners. With preparation starting as early as January 2024, they were well-equipped to tackle the challenge.
In typical Scottish fashion, the event day was accompanied by relentless rain, soaking the participants before the race had even began. Despite the challenging conditions, the Merlin runners completed their sections of the 26.2 miles, with both teams finishing in under 4.5 hours in the Scottish capital.
In the months leading up to the event, the Merlin team engaged in various fundraising activities, including a bake sale, a raffle, and a community quiz, all enthusiastically supported by the local Perth community. Merlin’s collective efforts resulted in raised an outstanding £2,219, which will be donated to two worthy charities: Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer Scotland.
Merlin extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the fundraising efforts and supported the team, underscoring the strength and generosity of the local community.

A big shoutout to the local businesses, whose generosity has significantly contributed to a successful raffle, which featured vouchers, prosecco, fine-dining, a 4-ball golf day, a luxury hamper, and other wonderful prizes.
