Example projects for real clients shown below.
A client wanted to optimize placement of their innovative tools in the drill-string with one-click functionality. The brief tasked Merlin to develop a digital model of the tool operating mechanism from first principles, which would be used to define torque and drag roadmaps based on placement position and number of tools in the string. These models were then validated against actual measurements and observations in the field.
Following a successful validation process, TDH was modified to include a custom tool library and data inputs as well as new output reports, which streamline the tool placement process and make presentations of data to the client’s own customers simple and effective. This approach reduced the amount of time our client’s engineers spent optimizing tool placement and reduced the amount of time necessary to prepare technical reports and proposals for new opportunities.
An independent tool provider wanted to incorporate their tool operating characteristics into TDH in order to streamline their modelling and customer proposal generation process. Custom tools were added as “drop down” options in the BHA input section, where individual tools could be specified as being part of the BHA, and their operating characteristics incorporated automatically.
TDH outputs were modified to replace spreadsheets which were used to collate data from different sources into one single location. TDH’s flexible output capability was used to generate a similar report automatically, without manual manipulation, allowing engineers to spend more time solving client problems.
