Perth High School Careers Festival
Merlin ERD were a strong support for our students as part of our PHS Careers Festival in sessions 2024/5 and 2023/4 It was very useful for our young people to engage with the team and to understand some of the processes that Merlin engage in.
Ms D and (Physics Teacher): “Stewart and the Merlin team brought along one of the most engaging displays of the careers festival, pupils enjoyed exploring the drilling process and they certainly drew a crowd!”
Our S5/6 Practical Electronics class with their wind turbines.
Our Physics Department have benefitted greatly from the donation from Merlin ERD of a class set of Wind Turbines.
Mr Ajeda (Principal Teacher of Physics): “This has been a very useful addition to the department. It has allowed our Electronics class to work on key parts of their qualification with really robust, larger model turbines than those we had. We have also been able to share these with younger classes to help enthuse them about the subject and get them excited about STEM”.
Our Music Technology class with their new kit.
Our Music team worked with Merlin this year to provide additional resources for the S4 Music Technology class. Many young people have and will benefit from this to create their own musical and radio tracks!
Mrs Benbow (Music Teacher): “Thank you very much for the generous donation of the Scarlett 18i 4th generation Audio Interface. This equipment has already made such a huge impact to the Music Technology pupils at Perth High School who have now completed their projects and submitted to SQA. Using this equipment, our pupils are now able to complete recordings involving up to 8 tracks where previously we could only record a maximum of 2. Pupils have undertaken full drum kit recordings, experimented with multi-micing techniques to capture recordings including acoustic guitars and pianos, live choirs, and various sound effects for film Foley projects which has just been fantastic. The pupils have been very excited to be able to develop their recording skills using such quality, industry standard equipment and have really appreciated the experience.”
Our young people getting to work with our new laptop caddy.
Merlin ERD made a very substantial donation to help us to purchase a laptop charging unit to support young people with additional support needs particularly around support for assessments. This has helped us to build on our IT infrastructure to supplement our laptop availability in the transition to our new school and has been very much appreciated by all involved. When we move to the new school this will continue to be a well-used and beneficial additional resource.
