Whether it be drilling for hydrocarbons, carbon capture and sequestration, or for geothermal energy, all industry stakeholders have the responsibility to do this safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
As educators, collaborators and leaders in complex well delivery, Merlin is ensuring that its drilling expertise and experience is captured and accessible through a range of online self-guided, online instructor-led, or face-to-face training modules. This, in conjunction with its engineering consultancy, operational support and ongoing investment in service development and technology, is ensuing that future drilling engineers are best placed to manage the energy transition through the application of field proven know-how and best practice.
The Energy Transition
All at Merlin accept the science of climate change and the need to transition away from carbon-intensive fuels, however we all know that this will take time. The oil and gas sector is core to Merlin’s business and, in addition to building capability in renewables, we will continue to participate ensuring that our work is carried out responsibly.
At a more local level things are far more within our control. Merlin has already adopted initiatives for reuse and recycling, we have invested in a solar Smartflower, disposed of our ICE company vehicles, and are proactively looking for ways in which we can facilitate Merlin’s transition at a greater pace. Regardless of what we do, we will ensure transparency, endeavour to be non-polluting, conserve energy and natural resources where we can, and promote environments that are safe, healthful for our employees, clients, and our stakeholders.
Social Responsibility
Being employee-owned and truly independent Merlin has more flexibility than a typical equity-backed business to take a more balanced approach towards purpose, profit, and people. We also recognise the growing importance of this within our broader customer base and we need to do more.
We committed in 2021 to build environmental and social projects formally into the business planning cycle and cascade these into the personal objectives of Merlin’s team members. Watch this space – we will measure, improve and provide updates via our news section.
