Primary School pupils and their Head Teacher
Merlin is proud to support STEM education in its local community, a powerful approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Employer demand for STEM qualifications and skills is high and will continue to increase in the future. By using specialist equipment, pupils get the chance to develop these skills, solving real-world problems, albeit starting on a smaller scale.
At Viewlands Primary School, Merlin delivered an impressive collection of equipment to their new STEM lab for use by pupils across all year groups, delighting the staff and pupils involved. The resources provided offer hands-on experiences in electronics, engineering, robotics, and multimedia which included: a laptop storage and charger trolley, kapla building blocks, electrical circuit boards and cables, safety equipment, drones and a green screen, office stationery.
Ron Ramage, Managing Director of Merlin
“STEM education connects pupils to real-world challenges, equips them to tackle problems, and inspires them to consider applications both locally and globally. And I’m sure they’ll have some fun along the way, too.”
At Perth High School, Merlin extended its support by providing seven mini wind turbine kits to the Energy Skills for Work class within the Physics Department. With these kits, pupils can assemble realistic wind turbines with adjustable rotor blades to optimise performance and conduct experiments to light an LED, charge a battery or even convert the turbines into electric motors. The hands-on nature of these kits encourages pupils to think critically about renewable energy solutions while exploring the exciting potential of engineering and technology.
And there’s more in the pipeline; come January, Merlin will deliver a laptop storage and charging trolley that will be used to support the young people at Perth High School that have Additional Support Needs.
