5 years of Ron’s leadership
Merlin recently celebrated 5 successful years under the leadership of Managing Director Ron Ramage. Ron assumed the role in 2019, ensuring stability and growth to the company and providing direction to our team of 21 skilled professionals. The core team remains largely unchanged in the past 5 years, which is a testament to Ron’s leadership through turbulent times within our industry.

Shortly after assuming leadership at Merlin, Ron found himself guiding Merlin through the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic. This period of unprecedented challenge tested Merlin’s resilience, and Ron’s commitment to the team was pivotal in guiding the company through. His forward-thinking approach underlined the need to invest and innovate our way through the pandemic, and that is exactly what we did.
Since then, Merlin has achieved many significant milestones, including:
- Digitalised Merlin’s training offering
- Commercialised Merlin’s drilling engineering software, TDH
- Expanded the service offering to include Managed Pressure Drilling, Geomechanics, and Geothermal Services
- Achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification
- Obtained ISO 9001:2015 quality assurance accreditation
- Simplifying, standardising, and improving the Merlin’s employee benefits package
- Transitioning the business from 70% to 100% employee ownership

A special team member
A special mention goes to Stella, Ron’s dog, who has also been a part of the office team for the past five years. Always by his side, Stella’s rare bark is usually directed at wildlife in the garden, not the postal worker. She is another integral part of the atmosphere at Merlin HQ, which is one of mutual respect, encouragement, and positivity, making it a place where employees look forward to coming to work each day.
